...There Was Rather A Lot Of Horses About The Place

Before I even begin to write this post I would like to apologize for my lack of online presence recently!  Things have been crazy busy around here recently, in a good way.

So.  On Sunday it was Cuasimodo.  Cuasimodo is a Catholic festival in Chile.  Cuasimodo involves lots of people cantering through towns on horses.  Colina has the biggest Cuasimodo in the world.

All of the above meant that there were 4500 horses in Colina yesterday.  That´s a lot!

We spent the day with the 3 American girls that volunteer with the same Chilean charity as us in Santiago.  It was really nice.  We sat at the side of our road and had a mini picnic while we waited for all the horses to arrive.  And then they did!  And they just kept coming!  And our road was where it all ended, so they then turned around and went back again!  We all had thundering headaches afterwards from the sound of 18000 hooves pounding down our road, but it was amazing.  Especially for me and Katie, who are horsey people and were very jealous of everyone taking part.

Oh, that reminds me!  One of the kids we tutor in English was riding in it!  But we didn´t see him....and his Mum told us today that he fell off and hurt his knee...but I´m still proud!

And now for just a few of the hundreds of photos I took:

Waiting:

 And then they arrived:

Love this one:

And of course there had to be music:

They got a wee bit too close for comfort sometimes...:

This little dude got handed a flag by one of the riders:

Haha!:

And there was the ocassional street dog that joined in:

As you can see from the frankly rediculous number of photos of horses I have, ther was a lot of them, for a long time.  There was also a massive market, with lots of lovely artisany things for us gringas to browse through and a rediculous number of people everywhere.  It was really nice to see our little town come alive in such a huge way.  Made us proud to live here :)

This coming week is set to be pretty crazy too, so I´m sorry if it´s a while before my next post again, but at least I´ll have lots to talk about! xx
